General tree description

Pinus contorta var. latifolia is usually a medium sized tree in Britain, though it can grow up to around 28 metres tall. It has a narrow, open shape and red-brown, finely scaly bark. Its leaves are dark green needles in pairs, 6 to 8cm long, and twisted. The cones are small and slender, 50 by 25mm.
