General tree description

Acer monspessulanum can reach a height of 12 to 15 metres and has a dense, irregular crown. Its bark is dark grey, finely cracked with bigger vertical fissures. Yellow drooping flowers appear in spring with the young bright green leaves. The mature leaves are shiny dark green, with three widely-spread and round-tipped lobes, 4cm by 7cm. They do not fall until late autumn. The fruits are samaras 2 to 3cm long with converging key-wings.
