General tree description
The Hillier Manual of Trees & Shrubs 2019 (page 337) states that Quercus rysophylla "was first received by Hillier Nurseries in 1978 and was introduced by Sir Harold Hillier in the following year." Its ultimate height in this country is unknown, but it can reach 25 metres in its native habitat and a specimen in the Sir Harold Hillier Garden had reached 20.5 metres in 2013. Q. rysophylla has thick, elliptical leaves 6 to 22cm long, bright red in spring, maturing to a bright glossy green above and hairless underneath.
