General tree description
Catalpa bignonioides 'Aurea' is a yellow leaved cultivar of the Indian bean tree. It is a wide-spreading tree, not as tall as the species (which can grow to 18 metres in height). The large, heart-shaped leaves open as a rich yellow colour but fade and become greenish as the summer advances. In late summer there are bell-shaped, white flowers marked orange and purple, in upright panicles. These are followed by slender bean-like seed capsules.
