General tree description

Acer platanoides 'Schwedleri'is an old cultivar of Acer platanoides selected for its distinctive dark purple colour. Like Acer platanoides it can exceed 25 metres in height, with a broad rounded crown and pale grey bark. The leaves are Plane-like but smaller, palmate, 15cm long and wide, with five lobes. Golden yellow flowers appear in spring, before the leaves. Schwedleri's leaves emerge bright pinkish-red, turning mauvish grey-green in summer and purple in autumn. The fruit is a bright green seed with pale crimson wings
