This tree is north of the first bridge below the Promenade, on the east side of the path. (The white flowers at the top right of the early June photograph are from the Styrax japonicus.)
General tree description
Meliosma parviflora is an uncommon shrub introduced to this country in 1936. It has white fragrant flowers in spring and summer followed by tiny berries. The leaves are obovate (teardrop-shaped, with stem attached to a tapering point) and deep green.
