General tree description

Magnolia virginiana is an evergreen or deciduous tree native to the lowlands and swamps of central and south eastern United States, where it can reach a height of 30 metres. It is deciduous or evergreen depending on climate: evergreen in areas with milder winters. Its leaves are simple (not lobed or pinnate), 6-12 cm long, and 3-5 cm wide. Flowers are creamy white, 8-14 cm diameter, and carry a very strong vanilla scent.
