This tree is in the old fernery, below the north end of the rock garden. At a height of 12 metres, of its kind it is unusually tall. In 2015 and 2016 it produced no foliage.

General tree description

Pinus densiflora 'Umbraculifera' is a slow-growing tree with an umbrella-like crown, typically reaching 4 to 6 metres in height. It is often multi-trunked at the base and has orange-red bark. The needles are bright green, sometimes yellowing in winter. Cones are small (about 5cm long) and oval or oblong.
