General tree description

Tilia tomentosa 'Petiolaris' has a rounded crown and pendulous branches, and can reach 30 to 40 metres in height. Its origin is unknown but is thought likely to be a hybrid of Tilia tomentosa with another Tilia species. It has large, heart shaped leaves 5 to 12cm long, dark green above and silvery pubescent underneath. Richly fragrant pale yellow or creamy white flowers appear in clusters in summer. The fruits are light green, 8 to 10mm and five-angled.
