General tree description
Juglans regia is a medium to large tree, up to 30 metres tall, with a rounded head. Its bark is silvery grey with shallow ridges, becoming darker grey and coarser with age. The shiny and leathery pinnate leaves have five to thirteen (most often seven) oval, untoothed leaflets, the end leaflet being very large. The fruits are nuts contained in 5cm green husks and only ripen in hot summers.
