General tree description
Pinus contorta var. contorta is a large tree, and can grow up to around 30 metres tall. It may have dense, bushy foliage and can develop a rounded top with age. Its bark is black-brown with very small squarish plates. The leaves are yellowish green needles in pairs, twisted and 4 to 6cm long. The cones are small, woody and 4 to 5cm long.
