This tree is in the lower park, upper west, on the outside edge of the path. Its bark is badly split.
General tree description
Magnolia obovata is a medium sized tree with a short trunk and grey bark. It has very large obovate leaves, up to 40cm long, glaucous and slightly hairy underneath. Creamy-white, fragrant flowers, up to 20cm across, appear in May and June, followed by clusters of large, 18cm long, red fruits (cucumbers).
