General tree description

Sorbus americana is a small tree, up to 10 metres tall, spire shaped with ascending branches and smooth, silvery grey bark. It has pinnate leaves, with 13 to 17 sharply toothed, long-acuminate leaflets, serrated nearly to their base, slightly larger than those of the Common rowan and more slender pointed. They are light green, turning red, yellow and orange in autumn. In late spring there are large clusters of small white flowers followed by rich red 1cm fruits in large, dense bunches.
