General tree description

Prunus 'Benden' is a Japanese cherry of garden origin, thought to be probably a form of Prunus jamasakura, the Japanese Hill cherry, which it resembles. It is a small to medium-sized tree, up to 10 metres tall, funnel-shaped, with ascending branches. It flowers early (late March to early April) and the flowers are single, pale pink, around 4cm in diameter with five petals. The young leaves are coppery red or reddish brown, becoming green and finally turning orange-red in autumn.
