Children's playground

Thompson's Park had its first children's playground with swings before these facilities were provided in Cardiff's public parks. Its precise location is not known.

In May 1914 the Council's Parks Committee received a gift of £10 to install children's swings in Roath Park. It was decided to accept the donation only after a visit to Thompson's Park to inspect the swings provided there by Mr Charles Thompson. This visit involved the Parks Chief Officer and some local children as well as members of the Committee. It was agreed that the Roath Park swings should be made to the same design as those in Thompson's Park.

In the 1980s and early 1990s another playground was provided on the east side of the lower park, approximately on the site previously occupied by the parks buildings. It was removed because it was not popular with the local residents.
