Football

Football was being played in Thompsons Park in the 1890s between school and local club sides, though it is not known if there was a levelled pitch.[1][2]

In the 1940s there was a football pitch in the centre of the upper field which was used by local schools and for informal games, but was never levelled.[3]

(There was another, better, football pitch to the east of the park, shown as "Sports Ground" on Ordnance Survey maps. It was not part of the park and has since become a housing estate.)
