The Canna Bed was in front of the Conservatory from 1997 to 2011, on the south side of the entrance. In the centre was a Cordyline australis (Cabbage tree) which was also the centre of an earlier bed design, having been placed there in 1995/6. It died in the winter of 2004/5.[1]
Canna species and cultivars were maintained at the Castle Nursery in Bute Park, with a view to the possible establishment of a National Collection. The plants in the Conservatory Border were lifted annually and returned to the Nursery.[2]
