War Memorial

The war memorial is on the north east side of Grange Gardens and was officially unveiled on the 7th July 1921.[1]

After the First World War a fund and a committee had been established to create a Grangetown War Heroes Memorial, and the committee requested a site in Grange Gardens. The memorial was commissioned at a cost of £1000 and records the names of the Grangetown fallen as well as those of the members of the Committee responsible for its erection.

Designed by H.C. Fehr, sculptor, the memorial comprises a bronze statue of winged victory on a Portland stone plinth which bears bronze plates recording the names of the fallen in the Great War (1914-1918).[2] A separate bronze plaque was added in 2005 by the Grangetown Local History Society to remember those who lost their lives in the Second World War (1939-45) and later conflicts.
